Oldřich Friš – Sanskrit Reader. Volume II: Dictionary
This dictionary offers an extensive vocabulary of over 8150 entries, presented in modern scholarly Latin transliteration. Unlike V. A. Kochergina’s Sanskrit-Russian dictionary, Friš’s work does not include stress marks or headwords in Devanagari script. Abbreviations are given in Latin, as per tradition, and verbal forms are accompanied by their primary root references. All 505 verbs are organized according to a nest principle, grouping related derivatives together.
The dictionary features an imitation index cut – an alphabet printed on the page margins – for quick navigation. It functions as a Sanskrit-Czech-Russian-English lexicon, with a volume that surpasses Russian-language glossaries to textbooks by Miller-Knauer, F. Knauer, G. Bühler, and V. A. Kochergina (which contain about 1900 words) both individually and, at nearly one and a half times, combined (4500 words).
