The poets featured are primarily those whose verses have surrounded the author since early youth and have become part of his bloodstream: Lev Druskin, Roald Mandelstam, Vladimir Uflyand, Tatiana Galushko, Joseph Brodsky, Oleg Okhapkin, Lev Vasilyev, Sergei Stratanovsky, Viktor Krivulin, Oleg Grigoriev, Elena Schwartz, and others. Several of the études were written in collaboration with Igor Bulatovsky.
