Alexander Skidan: Selected FB Posts (2013–2020)

This book by renowned St. Petersburg poet and literary critic Alexander Skidan is a genre experiment built from the raw material of his own Facebook page. An algorithmic machine alternates between his posts and those of others, crossbreeding the feed with traditionally peripheral literary forms: casual notes, working notebooks, and diary entries. The resulting structure grows and branches like an abandoned quarry’s amphitheater, and observing its expansion is mesmerizing.

Skidan was born in Leningrad in 1965. He is the author of over a dozen books, including the novel Guide to N and the poetry collection Contamination (2020). He has translated contemporary American poetry and prose, as well as theoretical works on literature, art, and political philosophy. He is a winner of the Andrei Bely Prize (2006), a fellow of the Joseph Brodsky Foundation (2018), a member of the “What Is to Be Done?” group, and an editor of the “Practice” section at Novoe Literaturnoe Obozrenie (New Literary Observer).
